Rose of Tralee, 16/09/2013
I had the privilege of travelling with a number of people from here to the Rose of Tralee, it was a great few days and even though our Liverpool Rose, Lisa, did not win she was a great ambassador for our community. Three of our young children who travelled were also chosen to carry ‘The Rose Gathering Banner’ at the front of the parade on the Saturday evening. The Rose of Tralee has been taking some criticism recently about it being nothing more than a beauty pageant. I totally disagree with this. The young ladies are all well educated, talented professional girls, this year there was four doctors, a number of teachers, a foreign diplomat and a plastic surgeon among the 32 Roses. The Roses this year met up a week before the event in Dublin and toured Guinness Brewery, Newbridge Silverware and then travelled onto Belfast, Derry, Galway, and Sligo before arriving in Tralee, all expenses are paid for on this journey and it is a remarkable experience for any young lady. I will hopefully be continuing with the Liverpool Rose next year so will be looking for entrants in the New Year. Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s Rose and a special thanks to Lisa O’Halloran, Liverpool Rose 2013.
